Between now and 2040, air traffic in Europe is expected to grow globally by 53% . Increased connectivity is great news for passengers and businesses. But air traffic systems are struggling to cope with increased traffic. Passengers face more and more delays and the traffic increase comes at a cost to our environment and our health. The European Commission is tackling this with its Aviation Strategy and the Single European Sky initiative to reduce disruptions whilst ensuring efficiency, cut air transport’s environmental impact and guarantee maximum safety. The Commission is also embracing digitalisation and automation to increase capacity and tackle the limits to growth. People working in aviation will be the main actors of change.
