Under the headline of 'Regions and cities, pillars of the EU's future', the 17th European Week of Regions and Cities will be a key platform where to gather and present the views of European regions and cities to discuss the future of Europe in a regional and local perspective.
Trust in local and regional levels of governance is on average higher than trust in national government, and in most Member States it is also higher than trust in the EU. Against this background, EU's cities and regions, and their elected representatives, provide proximity, trust and stability in the Union at a time when divergences and antagonisms are growing. This stability is vital to continue building a shared European future for the next generation.
The Opening session takes place on 7 October 2019 in the European Parliament.
