The EU needs to develop a long-term greenhouse gas emissions reduction strategy by 2020 in-line with the Paris Agreement. The strategy will bring forward a vision of a low carbon economy that protects the planet, defends its people and empowers the economy. It will analyse pathways in the energy system and other sectors, the role of innovative technologies, sectoral integration and consumers' choice, as well as implications for security of supply, investments, competitiveness, growth and jobs.
